屋漏偏逢连夜雨，暴风雨骤至，车轴又断，狄公一行人被困於莽莽群山之中，进退不得，只得匆匆前往最近的一座道观躲风避雨。

这朝云观去年才死了三名女子，而发烧昏眩的狄公，恍惚中又见一名身著鎧甲的武士正凌辱一断臂女子。他不顾头疼发冷，决意要找出这名武士。

可传说，道观里屈死的鬼魂会不时出现，轻声低唤某个人的姓名，这意味著那些听得见鬼魂呼唤的人即将猝死。而他听见了有人在呼叫他的名字：狄仁杰……狄仁杰……

本书为高罗佩巨作《狄公案》之一。

作者介绍：

　 高罗佩，原名罗伯特·汉斯·范·古利克(RobertHans Van Gulik)，生于1910年8月，卒于1967年9月，荷兰著名汉学家。他对中国文化的痴迷和造诣，从他的名字中就可看出，他的中文名为高罗佩，字忘笑，号芝台，住所取名犹忘斋、吟月庵。
　　高罗佩精通中、英、日、梵等十几国文字，并且写得一手好书法，行书、草书均在行；他擅长吟诗作对，琴棋书画样样通晓；写过许多关于中国传统工艺玩物、历史习俗的文章，包括古琴、砚石、古籍、绘画等，甚至还有一篇《长臂猿考》。郭沫若、于右任、徐悲鸿这些名流都是他的好朋友。
　　他让人印象最深刻的作品有两种，首先是研究中国古代文化。代表作为《秘戏图考》和《中国古代房内考》。这两本书是他整理分析中国古史旧籍、房中秘书、道家经典、传奇小说、野史笔记所写成，被公认为是这一领域的开山之作。“无论自取材或立意言之，都是无价之宝。”一位美国女学者这样评论。
　　由于中国人对于性生活一向持神秘态度，所以“十九世纪，在中国的西方观察者似是而非地假定那是一个可怕的堕落的粪坑。”就是为了替中国人辩护，驳斥上述说法，他不畏艰难，考稽史料，阐幽发微写成这两部作品，让西方人不得不承认“古代中国人的性生活，整体而言，是健康且完全正常的”。
　　而他的另一巨作就是《狄公案》。这是他考证了解中国古代的司法、刑律、吏治、行政、军事、外交、工商、教育、文化、宗教、风俗、民情后，同时将东方公案传奇中大故事套小故事的特殊结构与西方侦探小说的悬疑、推理手法巧妙结合起来写成的，全书共24个故事，130万字。 《狄公案》的男主角不是别人，就是唐代著名的宰相狄仁杰。由于文字生动且充满趣味，笔下的唐代社会活力十足，外国人、奸商、美女，甚至僧道尼姑、沙门教人群聚一城；所描绘的风景、房舍、衣饰、日常用品又经过详实考证，读来历历在目。六十年代推出之后，风靡一时，深深征服了西方读者。此后不断再版，至今不衰。

他笔下的狄公迥异于中国传统公案小说“青天大老爷”，他有独到的办案风格：重效率而轻缛节，讲操守而又善变通，重调查推理，而不主观妄断。狄仁杰断案如神，被西方读者称为古代中国的福尔摩斯。

　　高罗佩于1967年患癌症病逝，时任“荷兰驻日本大使”。

Frank Muller (May 5, 1951 – June 4, 2008) was a stage and television actor, but was most famous as an audiobook narrator.

Early life
Muller was born in The Netherlands, the eldest of five children. His family emigrated to the United States when he was five.

Career
Muller was a classically trained actor who began his career working on stage and doing commercials. He spent many years on the New York stage, where he became a company member of the Riverside Shakespeare Company, for which he played the title role in King Henry V, Edmund the Bastard in The History of King Lear, and the title role in Cyrano de Bergerac, as well as performing with the Roundabout Theater Company and the New York Shakespeare Festival among others. He also played supporting roles on television in shows like Law And Order, Life Goes On, Harry and the Hendersons, and All My Children.

It is as an audiobook narrator, however, that he was most famous. In 1979, Henry Trentman founded Recorded Books and hired Muller as a narrator. The company began by publishing public domain audiobooks such as Call of the Wild and A Tale of Two Cities but later expanded into copyrighted works as audiobooks began to grow in popularity. Muller soon became the narrator of choice for such authors as Stephen King, John le Carré, John Grisham, Elmore Leonard and many others. Muller won the 2003 Audie Award for Best Male Narrator for his reading of Elmore Leonard’s Tishomingo Blues.

Personal life
Muller was married to Erika Muller and had two children, Diana and Morgan. In 2003, the Mullers moved to a house outside Raleigh, North Carolina, United States, that was modified specifically for Frank’s therapeutic and rehabilitative needs.

He died on June 4, 2008 at Duke University Medical Center.
