===========percier charles.2===========
Fontaine came from a line of architects and builders. He had his first experience of the profession when, at the age of sixteen, he went to Isle-Adam, north of Paris, with his father, who was working on fountains and hydraulic systems at the castle of the Prince de Conti.
The architect in charge of the project, Andre, recognized the young Fontaine’s interest and aptitude for architecture and allowed him to copy designs and also to work on the construction site to gain practical knowledge. A young draftsman on the project, Jean-Thomas Thibault, also worked with Fontaine, teaching him the basics of the profession.
Realizing that Fontaine had the talent and dedication to be a successful architect, his father sent him to study with Antoine-Francois Peyre in Paris. Fontaine spent six years in Peyre’s studio, and while there he met Charles Percier.
Percier was the son of a bridge-keeper at the Tuileries and a seamstress in the service of the queen. As a boy he attracted attention for his meticulous drawings of the uniforms of the officers that he saw at the palace, and he received lessons from a drawing-master who taught art to the ladies of the court.

==========Picturing the Self Changing Views of the Subject in Visual Culture============
Ideas of selfhood, from Descartes to postmodern notions of the fragmented and de-centred self, have been crucial to the visual arts. Gen Doy explores this relationship, primarily in relation to contemporary art but also going back to the early modern period and Holbein’s Ambassadors. She argues that the importance of subjectivity for art goes far beyond self-portraits, exploring the self and identity–both the artist’s and the viewer’s–and seeks a way of thinking the self that goes beyond both Cartesian and postmodern approaches to subjecthood. She looks too at work and consumption; self-presentation; photography and the theatre of the self; the marginalized–beggars and asylum seekers–and "the real me." A wide range of artists, including Claude Cahun, Tracey Emin, Jeff Wall, Barbara Kruger, Eugene Palmer and Karen Knorr are discussed, as well as historical material from earlier periods.

Watson-Guptill | ISBN 0823015874 | 1995-10-01 | PDF | 144 pages | 27.6MB

As most Hogarth’s books, this one is not at the least descriptive. The drawings are a bit more frequent, and you may find it useful. Some of the drawing I did not enjoy too much, but, all-in-all, they still demonstrate the proper material. The author provides 4 decent approaches to the illustration of wrinkles in different situations, mostly differenting dependent on the type of physical movement the character (human, in all cases) makes. Most of the book talks about drapery, but there is some information on how to apply the same principles onto skin.
This is a must-have for a character designer, whether you work in 2D or 3D. It will provide a beginning artist with the basic understanding of the dynamics of drapery and clothes, but it won’t be much use for a medium-to-experienced studio artist, especially when she/he draws from life

This new edition is an introduction to design and graphic techniques aimed to help designers increase their understanding of buildings and places through drawing. For many people the camera has replaced the sketchbook, but the author argues that freehand drawing as a means of analysing and understanding buildings develops visual sensitivity and awareness of design. There is a balance of drawing techniques explained as well as guidance provided on how drawing interfaces with with photography, CAD and model making in the genesis of design projects. This second edition incorporates examples from architectural practice, including those of architects Lord Foster, Sir Terry Farrell, Edward Cullinan, Richard Murphy and Sir Nicholas Grimshaw.

==========Why We Make Art And why it is taught==============
Intellect Ltd | 2005-08-01 | ISBN: 1841501263 | 175 pages | PDF | 2 MB
Does art have any use or real purpose in today’s society? Why do governments around the world spend millions on art education? Rejecting the vogue for social and cultural accounts of the nature of art-making, this book is largely psychological in its approach to discussing art-making and its place in education.
The ‘we’ in the title is intentionally polemical, with the author claiming a universal, i.e. pan-cultural basis for ‘art’-making activities – or rather activities which can be described as ‘creating aesthetic significance’. Developmental issues in art education are examined, together with the nature of learning in art, with reference to concept acquisition.
Section two of the four sections which comprise the book, focuses upon some ‘mini case-studies’, detailing conversations with people talking about their art-making, together with some autobiographical reflections. Section three then considers the issues in art and learning which can be gleaned from various respondents’ accounts of their making activities; these include the nature of the artistic personality and the role of art in self-identity and self-esteem. Other topics touched upon include imagination, expression and creativity. The concluding section examines the notion of creating aesthetic significance as a fundamental human urge, drawing upon work done in evolutionary psychology.
Whilst questioning whether schools as they are currently conceived are the best places for teaching and learning anything, an art curriculum based upon the acquisition of ‘threshold skills’, such as drawing, together with a gradual introduction to the appreciation of visual form is advocated. Declaring that schools of the early twenty-first century will soon be seen as as dated as the Victorian workhouse, the successful art room, with a learner-centred rather than discipline-centred philosophy is put forward as a model for schools and schooling.

=======Bridgman/’s Complete Guide to Drawing from Life 伯格曼人体绘画完全指南===========
It’s rare to find good, comprehensive books on drawing the anatomy. Each of these the first, the return of a classic; the second, a focused study; and the third, lessons from the masters deserves a place on library shelves. Bridgman was a legendary teacher at New York’s Art Students’ League. There, he originated a system of drawing known as "constructive anatomy." In 1952, his seven books on anatomy were gathered into one volume, which became a standard work at art schools and universities. Published now for the first time in paperback, it holds up as an indispensable volume, with more than 200 illustrations of hands and hundreds of images of arms, shoulders, heads, torsos, legs, knees, and feet. Fairley’s book concentrates on those troublesome extremities hands and feet. Sketchbook exercises are followed by eight detailed painting demonstrations in watercolor, oil, and other media. Fairley then continues on to portraits in which variations in age, skin tone, composition, mood, and movement are integrated. Advanced students will find Hale and Coyle’s Anatomy Lessons from the Great Masters a rich source of inspiration. Hale, like Bridgman, was one of the great teachers at the Art Students’ League. His student, Coyle, gathered together Hale’s famous lectures to produce this compendium. Hale drew on principles found in 100 masterpieces by such artists as Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rubens, Raphael, D?rer, Titian, and Rembrandt. In 1995, Giovanni Civardi’s trilogy Drawing Human Anatomy (Sterling, 1995), Drawing the Female Nude (Sterling, 1995), and Drawing the Male Nude (LJ 3/15/96. o.p.) reached a high standard for good, basic books in this genre. These three surpass Civardi’s works and are highly recommended for serious artists and comprehensive library collections.

==========Lessons from Michelangelo 0823027481==========
Watson-Guptill Pubns | 1986-07 | ISBN: 0823027481 | 144 pages | PDF | 37,9 MB
Readers reviews:
-Summary: Excellent work…sadly out of print
Rating: 5
I just spoke to Michael Burban a few weeks ago, and am trying to convince him to release a new version of the book. He says he has learned much since he first wrote it, so the new book–if it ever comes out–should be exciting.
-Summary: I searched the earth for this book
Rating: 5
When I was very young, I borrowed this wonderful book from a Brooklyn Public Library. The Author, Michael Burban, was a student of Robert Beverley Hale, and in his footsteps, he taught through dissecting old master drawings. There was no greater draughtsman than Michelangelo. Imagine how much can be learned from when one of the most respected artists of the Students art League, picks apart the drawings of Michelangleo. Lessons from Michelangelo. The drawings are unparalled. Burban, chooses, old and late drawings that span the life of Michelangelo. Burban, starts out by pointing out the very basics of form, perspective, proportion, gesture, then delves into artistic anatomy, and finishes with some thoughts on drapery. It stresses discipline and basics, and doesn’t sell any shortcuts. After keeping this book out of the library for quite some time, it was mistakenly returned. I searched the library for months, never to see it again. I ventured to the Students art league in NY, unfortunately Burban was away for that term. I contacted a used book specialist. Nearly two years passed, and I received a phone call, the book was found, the price was twice the retail, 75 dollars, what a deal. It was the easily the best book I ever bought. I love this book, it is one of only a few books which I can say has real sentimental value. In a way it changed my life. I appreciate Michelangelo and his beautiful drawings, in no small part, thanks to this book. I wish Burban would write another book, or at least that this book would see a reprint. If you ever have a chance to buy this book, don’t think twice. Its a great book.
